All the little things...!
It´s been almost a whole year since our last blog update.
We may have been silent, but we haven't been still.
This blog writer (Mary Chimbili) apologises. I went off to have a baby and found the road back to be harder than expected :) I have (mostly) finished with the backlog of updates. I've had such an amazing team working in the field that it's taken a while to write about all the wonderful work they've been doing. In 2026 we have:
Trained traditional midwives in Bie (link)
Welcomed Australian fistula surgeons to Angola (link)
Hosted the 2nd National Conference on the Role of the Church in the Prevention of Obstetric Fistula (link)
Supported a massive operations campaign in Bie (link)
Conducted awareness raising activities in the community (link)
Trained government nurses in Icolo e Bengo province (link)
Provided reintegration activities and trauma counselling support to more than 600 women (link)
All whilst continually referring patients for treatment, staying in touch with nurses, midwives, patients, and partners, and developing networks with government departments and other stakeholders. We are at the forefront of a growing institutional awareness about the scale and impact of obstetric fistula in Angola, and we can't wait to see how we can be catalysts for change!
