  1. Nganja Park -

The inaugural "Fyote Pathways" event, organised by 10Padronizada Community Library in Luanda, was celebrated in Bailundo with Nganja Park as the principal host. 10Padronizada was sponsored by Goethe Institut to bring published author Domingas Monte to Bailundo to share her experiences of creative writing and literature with the local population, and also for the visitors to learn more about the history and culture of Bailundo. Nganja Park was blessed to receive donations of books from Domingas Monte, Kiela Library, and 10Padronizada.

Highlights of the trip included: a story-telling circle at Nganja park, a creative writing session and Q&A at the Bailundo Cultural Centre, and a very special day with Chief Kawengo of the Chilume Region. Chief Kawengo shared the oral history of Bailundo, and took the visitors to areas near Lumbanganda mountain where local people had resisted Portuguese occupation.

  2. Park Run - This month we supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month ("Pink October") with a special Pink Run which included a volunteer awareness lecture from a local nurse about the signs, symptoms, and early detection of Breast Cancer.

We also continued to support reading, painting, and sports as part of the weekly ParkRun event.

  3. Reading, reading, and more reading!

Our Community Development program seeks to inspire young people to find a love of reading, and to gain enrichment through the ability to read. To this end we regularly organise reading events, we carry the Mobile Library (BiblioKwenda) to different areas of Bailundo, and we have organised 3x weekly tutoring at Nganja Park. This tutoring covers basic literacy and numeracy, and always includes a read-aloud. Thanks to our excellent volunteer teacher, "Mandela".
