Why Reintegration Matters!

Can you see these two beautiful ladies?
They are both survivors of Obstetric Fistula.
They both travelled to Bie in May this year in the hopes of a cure for their suffering.
They both received a repair operation.
They both spent approximately 3 weeks in post-operative recovery, hoping and praying that they will leave Bie cured of their incontinence - "dry" - for the first time in years.
For one of these women, the surgery was a success. For the other, it was not. One will return home dry and continent, the other will continue to battle with urinary incontinence.
Can you tell which one is cured and which one is not?
That our patients can smile like this even after they are not cured is why our Trauma and Reintegration program is so important.
Because not every repair surgery is a success. Not every woman will feel the joy of being "dry". And some women will never be cured. So what can we do for them?
We can love them - dry or not.
We can teach them to love themselves - dry or not.
We can help them understand that they are worthy and valuable people - dry or not.
We can teach them methods to deal with their trauma - dry or not.
We can teach them skills to help grow their confidence - dry or not.
We can help them understand that THIS IS NOT THEIR FAULT - dry or not.
That is the power of our Trauma and Reintegration program.
